Baluch Carpets : Baluch CarpetsThey are all wool long dark and narrow rugs made by the Baluchi tribe of eastern Iran and Afgan. They are woven with rich burgundy and blue colors. They often have a tree of life or prayer rug design having merabs or an overall design. The most prominent Baluch pattern is stylized camel's foot or pear shape medallion, surrounded on all sides by geometric borders. Women weave the carpet on a horizontal loom. They are all wool carpets with even the wrap and weft of wool though some Iranian Baluchi carpets may have cotton foundation. Some may even have the hallmark of the weaver.

Bidjar Carpets : Bidjar CarpetsThe iron rug of Persia, Bidjar carpets are very heavy and durable rugs usually woven by the Afshar weavers of Bidjar in Kurdistan. Herati motif is the most commonly used one in medallions as well as allover patterns. Other patterns can be geometric and curvilinear or a combination of the two. Navy, cherry red, brown, light blue, pink, yellow, ocher, orange, beige and ivory happen to be the most prevalent colors. Very high quality wool is used for tying the knots. Gabbeh Carpets : The word Gabbeh means hoarse or rough or unclipped in Persian. They are woolen hand knotted carpets known for their tribal origin and patterns. Gabbeh rugs have bold color in bold tribal patterns. Patterns are strongly influenced by the life and style of herdsmen and nomadic tribes. The patterns are simple and uncluttered with the geometric representations of human and animal, large fields, bold stripes or geometric shapes or a combination of them. The carpet has a tough construction. The wrap, weft and the pile yarn are dyed with natural colors.

Hamadan Carpets : Hamadan Carpets known by their single weft medallion, Hamadan carpets are smaller sized carpets and many a runner type rugs can be found amongst them. The patterns have a geometric orientation. Hamadan carpets are known for their bright strong colors like dark reds and deep blues appearing in contrast with ivory. Apart from these traditional colors, greens blues and browns are now used in the patterns. The carpet is created with soft wool and tight piles and is rather thin. The wraps and weft are of cotton and the piles of sheep wool. They last long and they keep their pile and colors.

Heriz Carpets : Heriz carpets range from the coarse thick rugs with a heavy handle to the finer rugs with a softer handle. Most of them have a large single medallion in the center that has eight edges. They vary in sizes to a large extent. Light red, brown and sky blue are the primary colors where blue is used for contrast and contours. Brown, beige and turquoise shades indicate antique pieces. They primarily have a geometric pattern outlook complimented with flowers, twines and vases. They are a little square than other Persian carpets. Wraps of Heriz carpets are always cotton but the weft may be wool. The yarn is dyed with vegetable colors.

Indian Carpets : Indian carpets often reflect the influence of Persian rugs yet they have made a unique place for themselves by their exquisite patterns, attractive colors and elegance. The typical knotted Persian carpet weaving reached India during the 13th -14th century and was treated as a royal craft. The patterns can be traced to have a Persian origin and so do the color schemes. Indian carpets color schemes are considered subtler than their Persian or Turkish counterparts.
