Surrounded by Burma, Bangladesh and Tripura, Mizoram is an amalgam of former North and South Lushai hill districts. It is a land of great natural beauty with an endless variety of flora and fauna.
Aizawl, located at nearly 4,000 feet above sea -level, is a religious and cultural center of the Mizos. Champai, Tamdil, Vantawng fall and Thenzawl are some of the other important tourist centers in this state. Tamdil's fame rests on its natural lake; Vantawang has the highest waterfall in Mizoram and Champai offers a view of the Myanmar hills. Mizoram has a pleasant weather throughout the year. The entire area is under the direct influence of the monsoon with heavy rains from May to September. Annual rainfall: 250 cm. 11-21 degrees Celsius in summer; 20-29 degrees Celsius in winter.
Aizawl
The State capital of Aizawl is located at an altitude of 4000 feet above sea level. It is accessible from Shillong, Guwahati and Silchar by road with both bus and car plying on the routes. Standing on a high ridge surrounded on the east by the deep green valley of river Tlawng, with its lush green deep valleys, and on the north protected by beautiful high hills of Durtlang, it stands like a high citadel. An ideal hill station for those looking for some fresh air and solitude. Places of interest in Aizawl include the Museum at Macdonald's Hill, the Mizoram State Museum and a mini zoological garden and Durtlang Hills, the northernmost part of Aizawl.
Tamdil Lake
A natural beautiful lake, 85 kms from Aizawl near Saitual village is in the midst of cool, virgin forest that offers an ideal picnic spot for tourists. It has boating facilities for the tourists and accommodation is available at the Tourist lodge
